Summit Allotment Project Begins...

This year Summit took on a plot at the Tassell Hall allotment site in Redbourn. We certainly knew we had a challenge ahead but lots of progress has been made and already it is beginning to take shape.

A project such as this will provide numerous opportunities for our students as well as the responsibility of maintaining the plot. An allotment is a fantastic resource to teach about the environment and the benefits, as well as the satisfaction, from growing your own produce. We hope to include a range of sensory areas as well as a wildlife section and the rest of the plot to be dedicated to growing fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Work has started on clearing the plot and preparing the ground for planting and we will shortly be constructing some raised beds. Our students are very excited about the allotment and we look forward to developing it over the coming months

Lots of hard work was needed to clear the plot and start the hard task of digging up the ground and removing all of the roots and sedge grass.

Sessions incorporated planting seeds, preparing more of the plot and lessons in building some raised beds. It was great to see how many new skills were being learnt
