Mental Health Awareness Week

The week of the 18th May 2020 marked Mental Health Awareness Week. This was a great opportunity for us to spread a message of support, inclusion, and focus on the positive in the current difficulties we are all facing due to lockdown. Summit decided to theme the week around ‘what makes you happy’ to encourage all to think about the things that bring happiness and positivity to their lives.

We had some fantastic feedback with all enjoying the project - including staff!

There was a huge range of entries including topics such as music and art, pictures of favourite activities being done, performing, animals, favourite foods, gardening, tv shows, comedy and more!

We have all acknowledged how difficult it has been as a result of the Coronavirus restrictions that have been imposed, so it was nice to place emphasis on a positive aspect which could also be looked upon as something to return to or enjoy during this time.

When discussing favourite activities and the benefits of a positive mindset during sessions it became clear that this exercise had been extremely beneficial. It has been all too easy to be consumed by the fear of isolation whilst being inundated with the tragic numbers of those contracting the virus and continual press coverage. It felt important to take a step back and utilise this moment to appreciate the aspects that have brought happiness and the ways in which this period can be seen as a chance to enhance skills and enjoy activities that we may not normally have much time to do.

Well done to all who took part and for the enthusiasm throughout!
